To become a professional, you have to start as a beginner at some point. The good thing is you have started and have shown the intent. It’s all about intention. Rummy game rules are relatively simple, the objective of the game is to form runs and sets.
RUN’s: A run consists of 3 or more cards of the same suit and is in consecutive order. In this, there are two types, Pure run, and Impure run.
->Pure run: Consists of either 3 or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order or compiling three cards of the same rank and same suit. In both these cases, joker card should not be included.
->Impure run: Consists of 3 or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order including a joker card.
SET’s: A set consists of 3 or 4 cards of the same rank but different suits. It cannot include two or more cards belonging to the same suit.
By this time you might stultify and feel like you know all of these rules. And that’s what makes my first point.
1) BASICS:
The rummy game involves a high degree of skill. Basics are at the very base of sharpening these skills. You have to be with the game, playing all the time to know which card can come handy and which one needs to be discarded.
2) SECRET SAUCE:
The recipe book for the strategic rummy plays has been released a long time back in various rummy sites. The strategies have been made so transparent and obvious that there is no more secrecy to it. Right now it is all about how you apply it to your game. Some useful tricks that you need to keep in mind during your rummy game are:
-> Always aim to make pure sequences first. This ensures that you don’t get the sum of all points of the cards in your hand if your opponent declares the game.
-> Arrange the cards in your hand in alternate colors to group them in better order. This method helps avoid confusion.
-> Discard your high point cards first. Hoarding high point cards like Ace, King, Queen or Jack to wait for an opportunity to form sequence or sets can increase your risk of accumulating more points if your opponent declares the game.
-> Make use of middle cards like 5 and 6 that allow you to form more combination.
->Observe closely and track the cards discarded by your rummy game opponents. This will help you identify the run’s they are trying to form. Also, try to drop the card close to what your opponent has discarded so that he/she does not pick your discarded card.
->Rummy game is all about managing your points. So, if you lose, you should make sure that you lose with a minimum number of points.
->Constant re-arranging of cards helps you identify different possible combinations that might minimize losses and maximize winnings.
All said, none of these things are going to matter unless you play the game continuously. Each game will improve who you are as a rummy player. You can’t gain big without some loss.
